When I first became a mummy I felt strongly that I would not follow stereotypes for gender, but soon came to realise that they make their own minds up about what they like and don't like, and really all I could do was offer alternatives.
As I'd made a picture for George, I wanted to make one for Oscar too. I chose similar colours, but I changed the subject to Bugs. I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that Oscar is going to like bugs too when he is older. I am sure, like we did with his older brother, we will spend hours looking for bugs and creepy crawlies, catching them and letting them escape.
I have sourced some new frames, so I've put Oscar's picture in one of these; I really like the fact it's wooden and has a wider frame, it feels more substantial, but it works out quite expensive, so I think I may offer both types (the original ones I've been using are IKEA ).
Although I am really pleased with it overall, I need to experiment more with writing with light coloured thread on a darker background, as I think I've overworked this too much to enable it to be more visible. Perhaps I could embellish a lighter background where I want the writing to go.
Having said that, I am extremely pleased with the bugs!
