I've had so much positive feedback about the last piece I made using neutral colours, I wanted to make more!
I've had a beautiful piece of antique lace for some years now, not quite knowing what I should do with it, until I had an idea a few days ago. So I used it as the base for this piece, felting it with silk chiffon and silk threads. I used freehand embroidery to write the words "To have and to hold from this day forward". I feel that so much of a wedding day is about the day, but these words are about looking forward, about the future. Of course, I couldn't use ' to love, honour and obey'!
I purposely chose a variety of different coloured buttons to go on this piece as I think they lend themselves to the 'vintage' feel of it, and I used a base of brown for the writing, then layered silver on top, to create a 'rusted' look.
I've left plenty of space, so if someone wanted this personalised with names and / or dates then this would be possible, but equally, it could be left just like this.
Katie - I love the to have and to hold piece and it would be perfect for my two friends who are having their civil ceremony in April...
let's talk numbers!
